Cryptocurrency Craze Reaches the NFL Universe

A few days ago, Saquon Barkley appeared on Anthony Pompliano’s business show, where he revealed his plan of converting all of his endorsement money to cryptocurrency.

The New York Giants running back is still on a 4-year rookie deal worth $31.1 million, which he will receive in US dollars. Barkley, however, also has many endorsement deals with companies like Hulu, Pepsi, and Nike, which he’s planning to invest in Bitcoin.

Although he’s never disclosed the amounts he’s getting from his endorsements, it’s estimated that the sum is measured in millions.

One of the first to do so is The Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, who started accepting Bitcoin on his online store back in 2014. Still, Sherman’s cryptocurrency adventure isn’t as ambitious as what Sean Caulkin has in mind. The former tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs wants his future salary to be paid in cryptocurrency and nothing else.

Sean Culkin Wants His Entire Salary Paid in Bitcoin

Sean Culkin is a self-professed cryptocurrency enthusiast, whose plan for the upcoming season is to get his paycheck in Bitcoin. At this point, it’s still uncertain whether his plan will come to life. The thing is that the Chiefs released him in May, meaning that at the moment, Culkin is a free agent.

If he lands a new contract before the start of the 2021 season, he will convert everything to Bitcoin. Doing such a thing won’t be a first in the NFL, as Trevor Lawrence has already gone that way.

Trevor Lawrence Converts His $24.1 Million Bonus to BTC

Even before the 2021 NFL Draft, Trevor Lawrence mapped out his financial future. He inked an endorsement deal with a crypto investment app Blockfolio, announcing that he will use it to store all the money from his signing bonus.

“When it comes to my crypto portfolio, I wanted a long-term partner in the space that I could trust,”

Lawrence said following the announcement of his Blockfolio endorsement deal.

Fast-forward a couple of months and Lawrence has signed a rookie deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The deal will see the young quarterback receive $36.8 million across the next four years. In addition, he’s also received a signing bonus of $24.1 million straight away.

Russell Okung Makes Millions Off Bitcoin

With the information we have at this point, Trevor Lawrence is the NFL player who’s invested the most money in cryptocurrency. However, when it comes to Bitcoin trading profit, Russell Okung is the leader.

The former offensive lineman of the Seahawks made his investment just before the astronomic increase in the price of Bitcoin. The story goes that in December, Okung decided to have half of his $13 million salary converted to BTC.

At the time, the price of Bitcoin was under $20,000. A month later, its price doubled and by April, it went over the $60,000 mark.

The BTC price has dropped since, although it’s still higher than it was in December. At the moment of writing, the price of Bitcoin is $32,080.
